Lighting study on an organic shape (2016)

Done this last fall, oil painting on canvas 16 x 20 inches, in my art class @ Académie des Beaux-Arts de Montréal www.academ.ca/

After the study of "the sphere" ( demielune.deviantart.com/art/T… ), my teacher wanted me to get a little more complex. Same light/shadow exercice, but on an organic shape (here, a root upside down, also called "the branch"). And for a second assignment in oil paint, we still wanted to keep color palet simple...

Overall, I took 6 classes of about 3 hours (ruffly 18 hours). I thought I had pictures of all 6 classes, but I have only 3
